In the final game of the Basketball Needs New Jersey Showcase, hosted by JF Kennedy High School (Paterson, NJ) and presented by the Dribble Drop, Saint John Vianney defeats University, 47-46.

University had a small lead at the end of the first quarter, 10-6. University’s Tara Johnson is a tough player who hounds the offense for steals, can push the ball down court, and works hard for rebounds. She finished with 18 points. Taneisha Tucker also finished with 18 points. She did a great job of drawing fouls and finishing from the foul line.

Saint John Vianney had a great second quarter, putting in 23 points, which was a major improvement from their 6 points in the first quarter. They led at the half time, 29-22. SJV relied heavily on their outside shooting to win the game. They had 6 outside shots, all of which were earned by passing, cutting, drawing defenders, and kicking out the ball. They also have a nice no-look pass into the post.

With less than a minute left in the game, University down by 2 points, steals the ball off a SJV pass and pushes for the full-court layup. With the game tied at 46-46, with about 6 seconds left in the game, University tries to call a timeout with none remaining and is issued a technical foul. SJV made one of the foul shots to earn the 1 point win.
