Dumont High School girls’ basketball is off to a great start this 2017-2018 season. So far they have compiled a 5-1 record with their only loss to Ridgefield Park High School. Last week at their holiday tournament they went undefeated against North Bergen 58-42, Dwight-Englewood 53-43, and Tenafly 45-31.

Against North Bergen Samantha Howard was on fire from the arch. She hit six three-point shots and finished with a total of 27 points. Ariana Pena added 22 points and did an outstanding job drawing fouls. North Bergen’s Kailyce Hanna was a strong factor inside scoring lay-ups and hitting shots off the dribble. She had 20 points.

Yakira “Kira” Rosa is a fundamentally strong guard for Dumont. She is patient, confident, and looks to distribute the ball to teammates. She has a quick first step, can finish with either hand, but can also score from the outside.

Rosa finished with 16 points and 5 assists against Dwight Englewood.

Dwight Englewood’s Elana Latinsky-Ortiz is a tough inside player who goes strong to the basket and can draw fouls. She had 25 points.

Against Tenafly High School, Dumont’s Jenna Mazzone had 16 points, Yakira Rosa had 12 points, and Brianna Perez followed with 9 points.
