Immaculate Conception High School (IC) Girls’ Varsity Basketball has dedicated the remainder of their season to Charli Roberts.

Only hours before taking the court against Montclair Kimberly Academy in the second round of the NJSIAA’s Non-Public North B State Tournament bracket, the IC players learned that their friend Charli Roberts passed away suddenly in her sleep last night. Charli was a senior at IC.

Although Charli was the team’s scorekeeper, it is difficult to describe her that way because she was so many things to so many people. Charli was a friend to everyone she met, which is very obvious from the outpouring of love across social media today. Students from many different high schools from both NJ and NY posted their memories of Charli and best wishes to her family.

Charli was indeed IC’s scorekeeper, but she was best known for her kindness and friendship. While honored at the team’s senior night, younger players regarded Charli as, “someone who was the first to welcome me in high school,” and “someone I can easily talk to about anything.” As an underclassman Charli played on the JV basketball team at IC. She was a good player with a nice jump shot, but her best skill was her basketball IQ. She was very knowledgeable and could contribute greatly to discussions about the game.

Tonight Immaculate Conception defeated MKA, 65-32, in honor of Charli’s memory. The gym filled with students from the school who painted their faces with “CR” and wore shirts that proudly stated, “We Play For Charli.” Charli Roberts will never be forgotten.
