It’s showcase time at the Shore! Fans are either going to be at Matawan High School or the Pine Belt Arena today. No 3 St John Vianney will try to get to 2-0 as they take on powerhouse National Christian Academy of MD. Matawan will try to rebound from their loss last night and get their first win against Pope John.
Down in Ocean County, there are two huge matchups to kickoff the WOBM Christmas Classic. Molly Collins and the high flying Donovan Catholic Griffins will take on Kamryn Lister and the Toms River East Raiders. We will also see a rematch of a pivotal game in last year’s Shore Conference Tournament. Pt Pleasant Boro, who was upset by Toms River South will attempt to get some revenge today.

National Christian Academy MD 59, No 3 St John Vianney 55
No 3 St John Vianney (1-1) in only their second game of the year proved that graduation will not slow them down. The Lancers battled powerhouse National Christian Academy of Maryland down to the wire, losing a tough contest 59-55. Trailing 31-25 at the half, the Lancers used a 12-9 third quarter to pull within 3. Senior center Kimi Evans led the way with a game high 20 points. Junior forward Maddie Doring put on a shooting clinic, getting into double figures with 15 points and connecting three times from downtown. Sophomore Brelynn Bellamy poured in 8 points.

Toms River North Gym
No 8 Donovan Catholic 48, Toms River East 33
No 8 Donovan Catholic (2-0) used a strong second half, outscoring the Raiders 22-12 during that span to clinch a WOBM first round tournament victory. The Griffins put three players in double figures. Melissa Buxton and Alyssa Hirschy finished with 13 points each. Molly Collins also chipped in with 12. Freshman Karolina Jaruseviciute in only her second varsity game, poured in 8 points. She had two critical baskets in the second half that helped pace the offense. Sophomore Kamryn Lister led Toms River East with 11 points. Sydney Schuler added 9.
Ewing 47, Wall Twp 36
Ewing advanced in the WOBM Christmas Tournament with a 47-36 win over Wall. Junior Kiayla Peterson led the way with 15 points. The Blue Devils will now face Donovan Catholic in the second round on December 26. Lauren Karabin was the leading scorer for Wall with 16 points.
No 10 Toms River North 56, Brick Memorial 35
No 10 Toms River North is now 2-0 on the season after a convincing win over Brick Memorial in the WOBM Christmas Tournament. The Mariners put three players in double figures. Sophomore Jenna Paul was on fire for the entire day, finishing with a game high 19 points. Amanda Johnson added 12, and Ashley Tutzauer chipped in with 10. Shaunna Bruker led Brick Memorial with 12 points. Emily Dominguez added 8.
Sayreville 58, Central 53
First year head coach Dana Cerullo and the Central Regional Eagles had the No 2 seeded Sayreville Bombers on their heels before losing a heartbreaker 58-53 in the first round of the WOBM Tournament. The Eagles trailed 21-6 after the first quarter, but were able to come all the way back between strong overall defensive play and a solid fourth quarter from Courtney Richmond. The Eagles led 45-42, before Sayreville forced four turnovers that led to transition points, resulting in a 10-1 run. While this loss will certainly sting, it is a big step in the right direction for a Central program that just missed the .500 mark last year.

No 9 Pt Pleasant Boro 56, Toms River South 49
Ally Lassen scored 22 points to lead No 9 Pt Pleasant Boro to a 56-49 victory over Toms River South. The Panthers are 2-0 on the season and will face Manchester in the second round. A shot at the buzzer gave Megan Hughes her 1,000th career point!
Mancehster 45, Freehold Twp 35
Freshman Kemari Reynolds scored 14 points as the Manchester Hawks used a strong defensive effort in the second half to knock off the Freehold Twp Patriots 45-35. The Patriots used ball control and timely shots to keep it close at first, but the speed and athleticism of the Hawks eventually began to wear on them. Manchester advances into the second round of the WOBM Tournament and will face a very familiar foe in B South rival Pt Pleasant Boro.
Red Bank Regional 54, Colts Neck 32
Red Bank Regional improved to 2-0 on the season with a statement win over Colts Neck. The Bucs have won their first two games by a combined 53 points. Tonight, they swung the momentum in their favor by exploding for an 11-2 run to close the first half. Brenna Bonner hit two three pointers which put RBR up 23-11. The Bucs never gave up the lead from there. Grace Dengler was the leading scorer with 17 points. Mary Villardi and Noelle Haplin both chipped in with 8 each. Brenna Bonner finished with 6. Sam Roth led Colts Neck with 13 points. Cara Volpe and Amy McGee both contributed with 5 a piece in the loss.
No 7 Neptune 58, Monroe 33
Deisree Allen scored a game high 36 points as Neptune rolled over Monroe to advance into the second round of the WOBM Christmas Tournament.
Prime Events Showcase At Ocean City High School
Mainland 58, Southern 43
Mainland (1-1) picked up a 58-43 win over Southern (1-1) at the Prime Events Showcase in Ocean City. Freshman Kylee Watson in just her second game, exploded for 24 points on 12/21 shooting. She also pulled down 7 rebounds. Watson is one of the best up and coming freshman in the state. Georgia Schoen also added 11 for the Mustangs. Senior Anna Spaschak led the Rams with 12 points all on three point shots. Junior Lauren Cruse also got into double figures with 10 points
