As one of the most talented athletes in Shore Conference girls basketball history, Michaela Mabrey was always regarded as a strong leader on the floor for the Manasquan Warriors. Her combination of athletic skills on both ends of the floor combined with this coach-on-the-floor mentality brought her to Notre Dame – where she recently finished her career as a two-time captain.
Notre Dame won the competitive ACC three years in a row from 2014-2016, and now Michaela will be staying in the conference to further her basketball career as a coach at the University of Miami.
Mabrey broke this news on her own personal Twitter account yesterday evening. Miami University finished their season with 24 wins this past season, 10 of which came in conference play. The Hurricanes have never won the conference though – something Mabrey will hope to change in her time there, bringing championship experience dating all the way back to her days as a Manasquan Warrior.
Marina Mabrey – Michaela’s sister – will be entering her second season at Notre Dame this winter. We’ll keep an eye on the schedule to see when Notre Dame faces off against Miami in conference play, and the two sisters compete against each other with Michaela on the sidelines.
