When Mike O’Connor first arrived at Rumson Fair-Haven; he often dreamed of the success that he and his teammates could accomplish. Among his many accomplishments, which include winning two NJISAA titles, he has now also achieved his goal of playing college football in 2017. As he prepares for his Senior year, O’Connor has made the decision to attend Colgate University.
” It has been a fun yet hard process. I really appreciate all the coaches that recruited me. A big reason that led to my decision to attend Colgate is the coaches. They made me feel really wanted at Colgate and that I could help them in the future. Another thing that led me to Colgate would be the academics because it has a great business program that I’m going to study in, and that a degree from Colgate would help me in the long run,” O’Connor said.
As mentioned, RFH proved to be the right fit for O’Connor. The Bulldogs will attempt to win their third straight title with Mike at the QB position. As a program, the school will look for their fourth title in a row. Few schools have been able to match what the bulldogs have been able to do in recent years. They would be the last team to win four straight titles since Middletown South did so from 2003-2006. “Playing at RFH definitely prepared me for the college level because we work hard in the weight room, we watch a ton of film, and focus in practice. I’m confident that RFH has prepared me for the next level. We’ve had a lot of success the past couple of years and I hope it transfers on for this season,” O’Connor explained.
One of the things that Mike has enjoyed the most about RFH over the years has been the effort of the coaching staff. ” I couldn’t thank the coaches enough for all the hours they put into our players and the program. They are all very excited and proud of me and my commitment.”
