Rumson Fair Haven play St John Vianney Tuesday night in the first round of the Shore Conference Hockey Tournament at Red Bank Amory and won 9-2. In a game that had a tight first period, RFH took control of the game in the second period and scored eight unanswered goals with Robbie Garavente scoring four of them. The offensive power of Rumson was just too much for SJV to control over the long haul even though they led 2-1 after the first period with goals from James O’Keefe and Joe Zani. Jeremy Connor faced 39 shots and was consistently under attack as RFH controlled the second period in the offensive zone and peppered the SJV goalie with 17 shots in that period.

Conor Deverin led all scorers in the game with 2 goals and 3 assist for 5 points, (season 31-19-50), and was all over the ice in the second and third period. Deverin leads the team in goals and is second in points to Brendan Ban, who had three assist tonight and leads the team in assist with 46. Although Ban did not score a goal he lead the rush to help on the first goal and was instrumental on RFH’s first three goals, which helped kick start the team towards its dominant second and third period. Ban may lead the team in points, 19-46-65, but he is not the only one who can score as relevant tonight. Robbie Garavente scored 4 times giving him season totals of 16-10-26 and Will Catalano, 2-1-3 tonight and 12-7-19 season, were two of many who were leaders tonight and are big contributors to the teams success over the year.

SJV played well in the first period, scoring twice and keeping RFH at bay. John O’Keefe and Joe Zani scored and the Lancer’s took the game to RFH and played most of the period in the offensive zone. O’Keefe, 15-12-27 which leads the team this season, played a spirited game and did all he can to help SJV. Jeremy Connor, who is a freshman, had a game that was off from normal during this fantastic season. Over the season Connor carried a 0.965 save pct and he would have needed all of that and maybe some more to stop the fierce RFH offense tonight.
