The Coaches Choice USA Showcase in Holmdel highlights all of Sunday’s action in the Shore Conference. Two of the biggest matchups on the schedule include St John Vianney taking on Gil St Bernard and Rumson Fair Haven squaring off against Notre Dame.
Coaches Choice USA Showcase at Holmdel
Staten Island Academy 68, No 7 Red Bank Catholic 54
Josie Larkins led the Caseys with 19 points in a tough loss to Staten Island Academy. Hayley Moore and Tia Montagne both contributed with 8 points. Red Bank Catholic are looking forward to a rematch at Neptune on Tuesday Night. This matchup is very big in Class B North.
Long Island Lutheran 70, No 4 Manasquan 55
Sarah Mortensen scored a game high 24 points and nailed 3 three pointers as Long Island Lutheran picked up a win over Manasquan 70-55. Grace Stone added another 14 points. Marika Korpiner also got into double figures with 10 points. LI Lutheran took control in the second half by opening on a 10-2 run. They built a 44-33 lead and stayed ahead the rest of the way. Manasquan put three players in double figures as Addie Masonius led the way a season high 16 points. Freshman Faith Masonius chipped in with 13 points. Dara Mabrey finished with 12 points.
No 3 Rumson Fair Haven 60, Notre Dame 55
Hannah Scanlan poured in a team high 17 points as Rumson Fair Haven defeated Notre Dame 60-55 in what was a battle right down to the wire. Katie Foos added another 11 points and hit 3 three pointers. Tori Hyduke got into double figures with 10 points, and Nicole Morris added 8 points. Notre Dame trailed 54-43 and went on a big run to tie the game late. Both Tori Hyduke and Nicole Morris hit critical free throws in the end to seal the deal. Nneka Ezeigbo scored a game high 24 points to lead Notre Dame in the loss.
No 1 St John Vianney 71, Gil St Bernard 57
Kimi Evans scored a game high 18 points as St John Vianney defeated Gil St Bernard 71-57. The Lancers are now 15-1 on the season. Tina LeBron chipped in with another 13 points. Kelly Campbell also got into double figures with 10 points and dished out 6 assists. St John Vianney led 38-30 at the half, but used a big third quarter to pull away. Madie Gallic led Gil St Bernard with 14 points. Sam Kramer and Lauren McBride both scored 13 points each. The Lancers are now set to host Manasquan on Tuesday night.
Archbishop Molloy 63, Holmdel 39
Jenna Mastellone scored 16 points as Archbishop Molloy defeated Holmdel 63-39 in the late game. Senior Jen Inman led Holmdel with 15 points and 3 three pointers.
In other action tonight
No 2 St Rose 54, Paterson Eastside 43
St Rose defeated Paterson Eastside 54-43 and are now 16-2 on the season. This was the second win over a state ranked team in less than a week for the Roses. They are playing great basketball and getting ready for the postseason. Loving Marsicano led the way with a double-double. Marsicano poured in 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 three point shots. Mikayla Markham also added 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists. Sophomore Lucy Thomas was solid in the paint with 9 points and 15 rebounds. Jen Louro chipped in with 8 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals.
