The Jackson Liberty Hockey team stayed on top of the Shore B division with a win over divisional foe Red Bank Regional 6-3. The eighth ranked Lions was led by Joe D’Andrea’s 2 goals and an assist in the assault that seen 35 shots sent towards Bucs goalie Jonathon Pierce. Mike Low added a goal to raise his total to a team leading 18, to go with 19 assists for 37 points, both of which also leads the team stat board. Joe D’Andrea’s goals gives him 15, second on the team, and with his assist places him third on the team with 23 points. Backup goalie Chris Boyce got a rare start, his second of the season and first since Dec. 13, and his rust showed a little when he gave up 2 goals in the first 10 minutes of the game. From that point on, he had a strong game stopping 16 of the total 19 shots sent his way.
The Bucs of Red Bank Regional would have loved for the game to end at that 10 minute mark, leading 2-0 and looking like they were going to dominate the game. Defenseman Frank Taddeo scored both goals as the Bucs took a commanding lead and out played the Lions up to this point in the game. The goals gave Taddeo 10 for the season, giving him 12 points on the year, both of which lead the team. Goalie Jonathon Pierce was again up to his game with keeping RBR in the game as Jackson Liberty gained superiority stopping 29 of the 35 shots he faced in the game. He made some stellar saves, including stopping a penalty shot in first period on Ryan Verile, which kept RBR in the lead at 2-1 at the time.
Jackson Liberty is playing well going into the Shore Conference tournament with a 6-1-2 record, (11-4-2 overall), and leading the Shore B over both Wall and Middletown South. Their next game is on Feb 1 against Ocean. RBR is having a disappointing season at 0-7, (1-14 overall), and their next game is Feb 3 against Wall. Conference seeding will be on Feb 8 with semi-final games on Feb 16 and the finals on Feb 18.
