Today, one of the newest recruits made her decision known. Lauren Onnembo, a Senior at Point Pleasant Boro; has decided to continue her lacrosse Career at Georgian Court University.
On her decision, Onnembo said, “Well I’m really excited about this because not a lot of people go on to play lacrosse from Point Boro in comparison to some of the schools’ that we play during the season. And despite our record, we have a lot of underrated talent that just hasn’t been used to its fullest. I’m just really excited to be continuing lacrosse because I love the sport and it’s a lot of fun. Our former Assistant Coach Molly Mccourt went there, so it’s a great opportunity to follow in her footsteps because she’s helped me a lot along with my parents”.
Lauren has been part of both the Lacrosse and Soccer teams at Point Boro for four years now. Tomorrow her soccer team will play for the South Jersey Group II title. With that occurring the day after she announced her commitment, she could not be happier. ” I’ve wanted to do this and it’s actually happening so it’s awesome and especially with the state final ️tommorow, I couldn’t be more excited than I am right now”, added Onnembo. As a Senior, she is just as excited to lead this Pt Boro Lacrosse team during her final season. She looks to improve upon a 2014 season in which she scored six goals and five assists. She is hoping that she can use her leadership to put the team in a position to win. With the Panthers playing in a tough A-Central division, her devoted team spirit may be what it takes to jump start the team this spring. In addition, the Panthers will be going into the season with new Head Coach Lauren Canaty. She is a Georgian Court alumni.
The GCU Lions last season had a record of 11-7 in 2014. They were fueled by a 6-2 contest in which they played a close game, losing against #1 Holy Family that ended in a 8-6 decision.
