Point Boro Edges Cinnaminson In OT


Make that two consecutive trips to the South Jersey Group II Finals.

It took just about ninety minutes for Point Pleasant Boro to punch their ticket to their second straight sectional final appearance. With Seconds remaining in the overtime period, it was Devon Wondolowski, who secured the game with her Second goal of the afternoon. Her first goal came earlier in the game as the Panthers Jumped in front 1-0 in the first half.

First Devon Wondolowski Goal :

Cinnaminson was able to tie the game when they were able to convert a corner kick. Anna Saginario was able to sneak the ball past Ayme Zalesky That would be the only goal that the Panther defense would give up in the game. All together Zalesky would face four shots in total. However, Cinnaminson would continue to have their chances; limiting the Panthers shots and forcing the game into overtime.

Anna Saginario Goal :


The Panther defense was able to hold their own throughout the game as well. There were a few times that both teams were able to advance the ball into the ends of the opposition. However, it was a combination of limiting touches and great sliding tackles in the open field. IMG_4024

This was a very physical game which forced injuries to a few Cinnaminson players late in the game. Soccer games can be exhausting, especially deep into the second half and into an overtime period. Although, the physical nature of a long game seemed to affect both sides towards the end, the Panthers were able to advance and achieve the victory.

After speaking with Defensive Captain Rachael Bailey, she said ” It was a hard fought game, we did not want it to be the last game for our seniors.”  Mentally, the Panthers were able to stay in the game from start to finish. ” It was a crazy game, there were some crazy calls.” We are were able to stick together and we got through it”, Bailey Said.

Devon Wondolowski Interview:

The Panther victory clinched a spot in the programs second straight trip to the South Jersey Group II final. However, for the Panthers they know that playing on their home field is assuring. ” We play better at home, we know the lines and we know our field better”, Coach Edolo said.IMG_4110

The Panthers will face West Deptford Thursday. West Deptford was able to come away with a victory over Manchester Township in the other Semi-Final game that occurred Monday as well. For Many of these Pt.Boro players, they were around to witness defeat last season. This is something that does not seem to worry the players. They know that if they come out with a clear mind ,they will have a good chance to win and bring the sectional trophy to Point Boro.
