This came just two minutes after Delran grabbed the early lead.IMG_2979With twenty-one minutes left in the half, the Panthers would take the lead for good in this game. It was Julia Fitzsimmons who was able to convert a header off the corner kick from Jenna Andujar.

The Panthers would put one more goal on the board before halftime. Devon Wondolowski was able to net the assist from Kait Settier. Her goal would send Delran into the half trailing by two goals. However, the Bears would respond to start the second half and cut the Point Boro lead to 3-2.IMG_2963Luber got credit for her second goal of the game, cutting the lead to 3-2 with thirty-three minutes left to play in the game. However, Point Boro answered once again.

All year it seemed that whenever the Panthers got even in the slightest of trouble; Devin Wodolowski came through. This was the case once again, as she scored her second of three goals to give the Panthers a 4-2 lead. This goal came with thirty-one minutes left in the game.

Delran would cut the lead to 4-3 on a Brianna Taylor goal that came off a Delran corner late in the game, but the Panthers would answer right away. Once again, it was Julia Fitzsimmons who would seal the game for Pt.Boro. This would be the second goal of the game for Fitzsimmons.

IMG_2983Defensively, it was Rachel Bailey who made a great sliding tackle to preserve the two goal game with just a couple of minutes left. The Panthers defense was not as sound as it has been at times during the regular season. However, they made the plays that were essential to preserve the victory!IMG_3012The Panther Pit reacts to the girls preserving a 5-3 victory.

On the team giving up the first goal of the game, Devon Wondolowski shared her thoughts. “It gave us the motivation to come back and we were able to connect by passing the ball effectively. We were able to finish off based on those combinations”. Julia Fitzsimmons added to that saying, ” We really respond well to teams. We are able to counter with quick passes, and we finish.”

IMG_3023The Panthers headed into the sectional finals last season. Even though they did not come away with the victory, they went on a run by doing many of the same things that they are currently doing in order to play their best soccer. “At this point in the season, we just have to match each teams’ level. We just have to continue to play well because we know that we are a good team” added Fitzsimmons again.

The team went into last year’s sectional final with a very young team. Much like the previous season, Pt Boro will have to depend on their youth. They believe that if they stay together, they will be able to end the season with a sectional trophy and hopefully a spot in the overall Group II tournament.
