Among the many talented players that will continue their baseball careers, Anthony DeRosa is a newly committed member of the class of 2017.
DeRosa announced via social media, that he would be taking his game to Rutgers University. I was later able to catch up with Anthony to discuss his commitment. ” I put a lot of things into consideration”, DeRosa said. “I like that it is close to home so the people that have supported me all this way can continue to do so and come to all of my games. I just felt like it was a good fit for me. I like the coaching staff and I feel like Rutgers baseball is on the rise.”
Indeed, DeRosa is not the only Shore Conference baseball player to commit to the Big Ten school recently. He will be joining Brick Township graduate Carmen Sclafani on this Rutgers roster that has been drawing local talent.
This season, DeRosa will continue his high school career at Red Bank Catholic. “Our goal is the same every year, win as much as we can. We feel like we have one of top teams in the Shore Conference this year and if we play together then we should have a lot of success “, Anthony added. After many strong years as a program, RBC has made two consecutive trips into the SCT final four.
When asked about his mind frame going forward DeRosa said, ” Personally, my mind set is to just keep getting better. This is just the beginning of where I need to be.” This year Anthony looks to build off an impressive Sophomore season. He hit an impressive .429 which in included the game winning double against a powerful Toms River South Squad in the Shore Conference Tournament.
DeRosa also spent some time on the mound last season. He talked about this teams rotation which includes Senior standout John Poccia. ” I think we are going to have a big year. We are expecting to do very well.”, DeRosa said of his team.
It will be very interesting to see who will contribute for the Caseys this Spring. However, one thing is certain, DeRosa will be eager to play.
