Week 4 Quick Picks

Week 4 Quick Picks

Week 4 is full of outstanding matchups. The threat of Hurricane Joaquin has the Shore on edge. Make sure you keep up with our Weather Watch page for all of the postponements and cancellations.

As of right now, most of the games are still on, but anything can change. Fans in the Shore are looking forward to two really exciting games on Friday night. No 1 Jackson Memorial will travel to No 6 Brick in a contest that could determine the path for Class A South. No 4 St John Vianney will host No 5 Rumson Fair Haven in what promises to be an epic battle!

No 1 Jackson Memorial at No 6 Brick Twp

Both teams split with each other in the previous season. Brick won the regular season game in overtime, while Jackson Memorial got their revenge in the Central Jersey Group IV Semifinals. The entire Brick team is remembering the Jaguars 44-0 victory from last November. Does Brick have enough fire power to achieve a different result?

When Jackson Memorial Has The Ball – Jackson will do what they do best, and that is try to score quickly. Quarterback Dan Barker thrives off the playaction pass. Kyle Johnson and Kyle Lona can stretch the field. Running Backs Mike Gawlik and Vinny Lee are two of the best in the business. You can bet that Coach Krystopik will try to get them going early

When Brick Has The Ball – Brick has really improved their passing game in the past couple of weeks. Quarterback Tom Zbranak is looking more and more comfortable. Ja’Sir Taylor is a threat to score anytime the ball is in his hands. Running Back Jay Obenauer is a force between the tackles. He is always very difficult to bring down.

OUTLOOK – This game will certainly be something to watch. I believe Brick will come out with a chip on their shoulder. The Jackson Memorial offfensive line will have to keep Dan and Jack Finelli from getting to Dan Barker. Cory Wilson will also come after Gawlik and Lee in the gaps.

In the end, I like Jackson Memorial. While Brick has looked to have reloaded this year, the Jaguars just have more weapons and experience. This will be a much closer game and nothing like the playoffs last year. Jackson Memorial will make a few big plays to pull away in this one.  The Pick – Jackson Memorial 21, Brick Twp 14

No 5 Rumson Fair Haven At No 4 St John Vianney

Could the Shore ask for a better showcase going into the weekend? This is a premier matchup with the No 1 offensive team vs the No 1 defensive team. The irresistible force meets the immovable object. Last year, this game went right down to the wire. Fans can expect the same level of excitement on Friday!

WHEN SJV HAS THE BALL – The Lancers offense will always run through Anthony Brown. Brown will have to read and anticipate what the Bulldogs defense is going to do. Both Michael Stapert and Marcque Ellington are 6’6″ and nearly impossible to cover. Khalil Haskins and Jeff Sheard bring speed into the slot. The Lancers passing game can hurt you on the inside and outside.

WHEN RFH HAS THE BALL – Junior Quarterback Michael O’Connor is looking even stronger this year. O’Connor is known for his tremendous rushing ability, but don’t sleep on the Bulldogs passing game. Elijah McCallister is a huge target on the outside. Lachlan Hull and John Kingdon are also capable of making big plays!

THE OUTLOOK – While SJV is loaded at the skill positions, their offensive line will face a major challenge. RFH will give SJV quite a few blitz packages. The Lancers are going to have to work hard to keep the pressure off of Anthony Brown.

The majority of the Shore will pick SJV, and I can totally see why. There are not many teams that can score like the Lancers. However, Rumson has been fired up for this game. After losing a heartbreaker last year, almost everyone is back for the sequel. I see the Bulldogs defense getting key stops when they are needed. Max Pfrang and Mike Ruane will both have a huge game. Rumson takes control of Class A Central. The Pick – Rumson Fair Haven 24, St John Vianney 17.
