Red Bank Regional Linebacker Chris Outterbridge is the NJSR Outstanding Player for Week 3. Outerbridge was a major force in the Buccaneers Class B North victory over Ocean Twp. The 16-6 win helped put Red Bank Regional into the NJSR Top 10.
The Buccaneers are 3-0 and off to their best start since 2004. Outterbridge had a game for the ages on Friday night, finishing with 10 total tackles, and 2 sacks. The Junior Linebacker also made the play that really turned the game.
With 10:11 to go in the 4th Quarter, it was Outterbridge who was able to strip the ball away from Ocean. From this point on, it would have been easier for the defender to just jump on the ball and secure possession. However, Outterbridge had other ideas.
The linebacker decided to scoop the ball up, and fly to the end zone. Outterbridge raced 28 yards for a touchdown on the fumble recovery. This gave Red Bank Regional a 16-0 lead, and they simply never looked back. The Buccaneers had all the momentum as they rolled to a tremendous win.
The Buccaneers held Ocean star Running Back Tyler Thompson to just 64 yards on 17 carries. Thompson had come into the game with 396 rushing yards, averaging 10.7 yards per carry. The Ocean Running Back was only able to average 3.8 against the RBR defense. Ocean managed just 73 total yards in the first half. They ended up with 249 as most of the yards were gained in the 4th Quarter.
Red Bank Regional will now host the Neptune Fliers in another Class B North matchup. The Buccaneers will look to shut down the Neptune offense and continue their bid for a possible playoff berth. Fans inside Red Bank have a lot to be excited about with this group!
