The game of football is truly a battle of field position. In fact, this is exactly what the Point Pleasant Boro Panthers were able take advantage of in a 14-6 victory over the Trojans of Bishop Ahr high school.
After starting back to back seasons 2-0, it was important for the Panthers to keep the momentum going. Especially, with the toughest part of their schedule coming up. However, the Panthers were able to get just enough offense as well as a superb defensive effort to earn their 3rd victory on the season. It all got started early for Point Boro. After a key interception that was cradled by Mike Falconetti, it was time for the offense to get going. On the ensuing play from scrimmage, Devin Connelly gave the Panthers the lead on a 33 yard TD run off the option pass from Quarterback Noah Husak. This would remain the score heading into the second quarter.
Offensively for the Trojans, it was Quarterback Tommy Galante who was able to find his groove in the second quarter. The Trojans would cut the Panther lead to 7-6 going into the half. Dane Lupton was responsible for the Bishop Ahr scoring drive as he punched in the 4 yard TD. Bishop Ahr was unable to convert on the PAT which allowed the Panthers to maintain the lead going into the half.
The game would then go back and forth in possessions . The Panthers were not able to score again until the 6:23 mark of the 4th quarter. At that point the Panthers were able to take advantage of a crucial fumble recovery; which set the Panthers up inside the 30 of Bishop Ahr.
After a couple of Connelly and Noah Husak runs, it was Nate Husak who was able to punch the ball in the endzone at that 6:23 mark. This would make the score 14-6. This was the turning point in the game as the Panthers were able to take advantage of several Trojan turnovers that plagued the evening.
Defensively, Nate Husak was big for the Panthers as well. On a third down play from scrimmage, he was able to drive through the line for a game altering sack. At this point the Trojans were already down by 8 and in need of a big play.
I was able to talk to Noah Husak after the game. We discussed the effectiveness of Nate Husak and the offense. In addition, we talked about how the dynamic duo bring a different look to the offense that has been very successful this season.
Pt Boro is now 3-0 on the season. They will now face the Hawks of Manchester Township next week at home. The Hawks are coming off a tough effort, losing 20-13 to the Lakewood Piners. The Piners are the favorite to win the Class B South Division.
The Panthers have to be feeling really motivated when it comes to aspirations of winning B South. This is a team that has not been 3-0 since the 2007 season in which they made a deep state tournament run.
I was able to catch up with Point Boro head coach Sean Henry as we discussed this key victory and much more as the young 2015 season has so far been very kind to the Point Boro Panthers.
