Panthers Win 2 straight; grab early lead in B south

The Point Pleasant Boro Panthers came into the day not knowing if they would be able to take the field this afternoon. However, the Panthers did not let the mild rain showers prevent them from achieving a 3-1 victory over the Barnaget Bengals. The panthers have now won two straight and appear to be adjusting well to the graduation of key players from 2014.

The Panther offense was able to make an immediate impact in the game when Forward Sam Monaco was able to net a mid range shot that would stake the panthers to the early 1-0. This occurred just seconds into the game on the panthers first attack.

Just a few minutes later into the game, the panthers would take advantage of a beautiful strike by Mason Pits. The panthers have a trio of Masons and neither one can be given open space. This would give the panthers a 2-0 lead. The panthers scoring would not end there, however.IMG_2075Once again, with about 15 minutes left in the half; the duo of Pitts and Monaco would once again prove to be what seals the deal for the panthers in this game. Mason Pitts would be awarded a corner kick, in which Monaco was fouled inside the box. The foul, prevented Monaco from making solid contact with the ball.IMG_2079The ensuing PK by Monaco was netted for his second goal of the game. This would end the half with the panthers accumulating a 3 goal lead. IMG_2076

The second half would get underway with Barnaget attempting to start a comeback. Give it to the Bengals, they were certainly bringing the energy in the beginning of this second half. In fact, the first Barnaget goal of the afternoon was perfectly placed. From about 10 feet beyond the edge of the box, Kyle Heidel was able to curve a strike beyond the gloves of Point Boro goalkeeper Tyler Haines. However, what appeared to be a ball that hit the post, was surely ruled a goal after the closest referee assured us it hit the back of the net. None the less, the panthers would not face much trouble beyond that point.

As mentioned, Goalkeeper Tyler Haines was just sensation. He was able to accumulate 8 saves and showed us that he has solid hands at the position. Counterpart Max Riter, likwise was truly sensational as well. Other than the early goal and PK, he was on his game to keep the Bengals in the game throughout the afternoon. You could hear from Sam Monaco along with Tyler Haines Below.

IMG_2085IMG_2077The play of the game however, would have to be given to Chad Fraser. Attempting to bail out his goalkeeper; Fraser was able to keep the ball out of his teams net when Point Boro had a clear shot. With the weather the way it was, falling down outside the box was something that very well could hurt your team. Fortunately, for the Bengals, they were not able to give up another goal in the game in part to this defensive play.

The panthers were able to control the rest of the game as they would come away with the victory. This improved the panthers to 2-0 on the season.

In addition, Both panther soccer teams have not lost this season. The Point Boro girls soccer team also won today. This one against Barnaget as well. A 4-1 decision that was capped by 2 goals by Kait Seitter.

After the game I caught up with Coach Peter Casalino to discuss the game and more.
