For the colts of CBA brotherhood has been something that has clearly been evident throughout the year. It has been existent even as the geography changes. Whether it is on the field, ice rink, or basketball court they have been able to stick together!
That’s exactly what led the colts to a 2-0 win on the campus of Monmouth University Wednesday afternoon. In shutout fashion the colts were able to defeat their Non Public A south rival Bishop Eustace behind 6 strong innings pitched by Senior Mike Garvey.
What little offense we got in this game came in the third innings . Brandon Martorano ,the University of North Carolina Recruit launched an offering from his counterpart Justin Hagenman over the left field wall for a solo shot. That was his 3rd straight game with an extra base hit.
The colts would not stop there taking full advantage of Hagenman as he would then walk CBA ace Luca Dalatri. He would come in to score later in the inning as Shane Turk found the outfield grass. The second of 3 hits in the inning.
That would be all the offense would need as Mike Garvey was just sensational! Through 6 Innings pitched he allowed only 2 hits a walk and a HBP. He would also had 5 strikeouts to his season total and combined with Ace Luca Dialtri for a total of 10 strikeouts throughout the game.
Dialtri came in for the sixth inning and was able to strike out 5 batter along with a ground out to end the game with the colts sealing the win. This would be the first sectional title the colts would capture since the 2009 season.
I later caught up with Brandon Mortarano to ask him about the resilience of his team, along with his own contributions that have made the colts a force to reckon with.
When asked about how impressed he was with Mike Garvy’s start Martorano explained he was “super impressed, Garvey had been a great pitcher all season but he really went above and beyond today and just completely took over”.
This was a key point; addressing that his team is more complete “than simply a one or two man team”. It seems to anyone that has watched CBA that they are all doing their part in order to win.
Once again Martorano Explained” I feel great” “I am just trying to put good swings on the ball and hope that they can keep finding holes”. Indeed his hits have found more than the hole lately, they have found the fence.
As for the colts they continue their quest to be one of the rare shore conference teams in history to win their division( or at least a share of the title), the Monmouth county Title, the State sectional title, the shore conference( which will take place tomorrow at 7 Pm and the overall Non Public A state championship.
That overall Non Public A title should be quite the game. CBA will square off against Undefeated and Non Public A North Champion Don Bosco Prep. This will be a game where once again the colts can rely on their home fans as the game will be played in Toms River.
